Five nights and counting: illegal Sussex occupation continues

March 16, 2010

The occupation at Sussex University demanding the unconditional reinstatement of the Sussex Six, suspended after a previous occupation has continued to grow. Monday’s teach-in program packed the Arts A2 lecture theatre in an open defiance of management and the High Court, which has granted an injunction prohibiting “occupational protest.”Students have now published a dossier of eyewitness accounts refuting the official management fiction of a ‘hostage situation’, on which the High Court injunction was based.

Tuesday will see occupied Arts A2 host discussions of the alternative proposals put forward by some departments and rejected out of hand by management, while Wednesday will see an Extrordinary General Meeting of the Students’ Union to debate a motion of no confidence in the Vice Chancellor’s Exectutive Group which runs the university. If you’re a student, be there and help increase the pressure on management!

Thursday sees strike action by the lecturers’ union UCU, following a 76% vote in favour on a record turnout.
